Speaking in silence. Man the Lord hit me today with that statement. I had to stop and ask for forgiveness, for I have been guilty of just that.
The vision of someone putting their finger to their mouth immediately came to mind..saying shhhh!
We have all done this to our kids jokingly or seriously while watching a movie and they will not be quiet. But that is not what I want to discuss. What I want to discuss is of a different scene. One where we should say something yet don’t.
Heaven forbid we hurt someone’s feelings. Heaven forbid we are not politically correct. Oh no, I do not want to offend anyone.
I say it is time to tell those statements to kiss our rears and call them what they are…..hog wash!
Because when we say nothing about another brother or sister in Christ who are in sin we are, in fact, still speaking. We are silently saying that we are ok with their sin.
The Bible tells us in Galatians 6:1 that if we see someone caught in a sin, we, being spiritual should restore them gently.
This word from Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, is telling us that we should say something. We can not restore someone gently if we are not speaking into their lives against that sin in a loving manner. Yes, I know we should pray for them. But sometimes that is not enough. Sometimes we must speak out against sin in a person’s life in order to help them and still continue to pray for them.
If we love them we will speak.
this is so beautifully and truthfully written Stuart. there were times in my life i so wished a brother or sister in Christ would have LOVINGLY come to me and spoke words of truth into my broken life…….i would have listened.

This really is a tough pill to swallow. I won’t go into detail, but just today I was thinking of a friend whose been eagerly seeking Jesus, admits their BIG sin, (the one that we all are familiar with/the Devils favorite tool against us) yet refuses to turn from it. Its gone so far as them asking me to help them with it. I stay quiet, at most I make a point that I can’t be apart of it, but I don’t say anything else. Not the parts that I feel led to say, not the things that I know will stir in them even after our fight has ended.
The Lord is really calling us to action here, easy or not. Great post Stu, something to think about.

It is tough at times to do this. I will be in prayer for your friend and you. If they need someone to talk to you may send them my email address. I’m always willing to help when I can.
