Who Controls Your Thoughts: Day 1

Here is the devotional:

God looks at your future, while the enemy tries to keep you in your past.

God says, “You can, in spite of what has been done!” The enemy says, “You can’t, because of what you have done!” God will never define you by your past issues, but the enemy will try to confine you by them. Whether it is the good, bad, or ugly that dominates your life up until now, it is Satan’s goal to keep you chained there.

Never let your yesterday keep you from your tomorrow. Learn from yesterday, but don’t live in it. Your victory comes through learning and then applying what you’ve learned. Becoming who God wants you to be starts with your thoughts.

Always remember that Satan’s number one strategy is to plant unhealthy thoughts in your mind, repeating them over and over until you start to think they are your own thoughts. When Satan told Eve she would be like God if she ate of the fruit, whose thought was that? That thought came straight from Satan himself. In fact, he’d had the same thought before, as we read in Isaiah 14:14: “I will make myself like the Most High.” It was Satan’s thought, but he planted it in Eve’s mind.

So, be mindful of the devil. Don’t let him have free reign in your mind.

Here are the scriptures referenced:

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
1 Peter 5:8 KJV

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2 KJV

Here are Stu’s thoughts:

So much truth in this!

One little word, phrase or thought can change a person’s life…forever.

The thought of only one look has happened to many men and women and before you know years of porn addiction have ensued.

One word from another person…overweight…has led to a lifetime of low self esteem, confusion, agony and health issues for both men and women. And most of the time they are NOT over weight

A thought of…this will make me feel better…has led to Chocoholics, alcoholics, drug addiction, sex & masturbation addictions and a sleep of other problems for men, women, boys and girls throughout history

There are so many examples of how the devil uses other people to get us stuck and keep us stuck. And it only takes a few times of hearing the words overweight, worthless, useless, you will not amount to nothing, etc before the words no longer need to spoken. We believe them as truth dispute the fact they are lies. Well….if you ARE overweight there is truth in that. And some who are have health issues that made them gain said weight.

But we, as believers, need to remember God makes no junk! You were fearfully and wonderfully made inside your mother’s womb to come out EXACTLY how God wanted you to be. So take no heed from the words of others!

You ARE useful!

You ARE worthy!

You CAN be much more than anyone ever imagined!

And more importantly you ARE loved by God the creator of heaven and earth!

Be on guard as the devil is constantly attacking folks and he himself may not say it to you but will use a loved one or even a complete stranger!

Stay prayed up and focused on Him!

  1. Great Post! I like how you wrote the section on overweight. Also we do need to be careful of what we speak , never speak of yourself or inner child in a negative way, your body hears you. Make sure our words speak life and edify and encourage ourselves and others! Great Post, again. Well done!

  2. Ugh, yes, I can remember so many little things said by parents, teachers, family, friends; I allowed them to shape who I thought I was.
But, I love God’s redemption! He will redeem those thoughts in His time. I don’t know why it’s important to Him not to clear wrangled thoughts up right away, but He brings to remembrance and truth at the time He deems perfect.
And then, as you say, “Stay prayed up and focused on Him!”
