God
Let you manner of life be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have; for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Hebrews 13:5
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Luke 12:34 KJV
The Jones’
Dude, check this out! You have got to get this, it is so awesome. Look at the new car I just bought for my son/daughter, man you really should look into getting one for your son/daughter!

Me
The one with the most toys does not win! You can’t take them with you when you die.
We just don’t get it I think. Don’t get me wrong in any of this, ok. I know we need things like food, clothing, a home and a car. Our children need these things as well, but our priorities have been misplaced.
I remember growing up with one pair of shoes for the school year, not 6. No one needs 6 brand new pair of shoes including woman who just have to have matching shoes with everything.
I remember my first car, which was a Camaro…used, but now many kids today have their first car being a BMW to drive to high school. They don’t need a BMW to drive to school..doesn’t matter if you have the money or you get yourself in so much debt to get it that you kill yourself…they don’t need it.
I remember playing outside after school and during the summer with my friends. Now kids do not know what it means to play outside with all the DVD/Blu-ray players, game systems, and other electronic devices that occupy their time. These material items are now our children’s babysitters instead of us spending quality time with our kids.
Granted times have changed and having the kids play outside is not the same as it was 25 years ago but we are missing the precious years of our children’s lives.
How are we missing this? By not doing as scripture says and being content with what we have. Parents we must wake up. Keeping up with the Jones’ is not important. Working yourself to the bone and being stressed out all the time is not helping you or your children.
You know what you child wants more than anything? You and your time that is spent with them!
Give that to them. Your time says I love you! All the gadgets/toys in the world does NOT say I love you.
Adults, this goes for us too.
Needs first…wants last!
If you are having a hard time meeting your bills you sure as hell do not need a new car when yours will still get you from point A to b and back, a new gaming system, the newest version of a phone, a new set of golf clubs, a new fishing boat when yours still runs fine and floats, that new furniture set just because you feel yours is outdated or even that beautiful 200K 2 story house with the three car garage, six bedrooms, three full bathroom that come with it if it is just you and your spouse.
We are just get caught up in the rat race I think. We shouldn’t though! We need to be content with what we currently have.
If God wants us to have better things I can guarantee you it is not through the world’s debt system of buy now pay latter. It is through trusting Him to provide the means as to where you will not be taking away time from Him nor your family!

I understand. I need a new laptop as well. But I cut on out the internet to save money, so it’s pointless at moment. And in today’s world a phone is a necessity. And Pat, these items are not in excess.

Be content with what we have. Why? Because He will never leave us. We have everything.

through the years we have learned to be content with less stuff, but our society tells us that we not only need more, we are better humans with more.

Exactly. But we are not better, it’s actually the opposite 😦

Very true, Stu! Kids need time, not toys or gadgets!

This is so true Stu. Society does push everyone to live above their means. People are working hard just to buy more stuff. The focus is on possessions instead of loving people. We need to pray and ask God to help us not to fall prey to this trap. Great post! 😊

Sadly money is what makes the world go round. And in order for the stock holders to be happy people must be in financial chains 😦
Thank you 🙂
