There is truly no other song that breaks me like this one does!
I could hear this seventy times a day and I guarantee you I would break out in sobs while hitting my knees asking God to make me a better dad.
I know I’m not the worst dad out there. But I also know beyond a shadow of a doubt I’m not the best.
I’ve heard Brandon say over the years that he wants to just like me when he grows up. I’ll be honest I love hearing that but it breaks me too. Because to be just like me he would have to go through all the crap I did growing up. I don’t want that for my son.
I want to protect him from all that junk.
I want him to be better than I was!
I want him to be better than I am now!
Father,
Forgive me and this wretched heart of mine. I have failed you in so many ways over the years. You see my son, that you graciously gave me to protect, guide and nurture to manhood wants to be like me. So I need to be more like you!
Guide me Lord. Mold me into the man You want me to be so that my son will always see You before he sees me.
Protect me so I can protect him. Guide me so I can guide him.
Amen
And since this is the month were we “celebrate” dads for one day here is a second song along the same vein by Halo
Dads, may we ever be watchful of where our eyes and feet go. We have little ones who follow!
Amen Stu! Great photo! God bless you and your family brother!

You are still in his life no matter what! None of us are perfect. Our parents weren’t, we aren’t. I know Jesus is still working on me to make me what I ought to be! They love us in spite of any flaws, just like God loves us in the same way. 😄I haven’t heard this in a long time! Thanks for sharing it. 😄🙏

Oh, He’s still working on me as well. They do love us despite our flaws, don’t they 🙂
It’s a powerful song like most of theirs are. This one just hits home more.
Thank you Renee!

Such a beautiful prayer! I think the lessons we learned during the crap we went through enables us to help our children, even if they will still need to learn their own lessons too. You must be a good dad and that’s why he loves and admires you so much.

Thank you Lesley. I agree that they will need to learn their own lessons. That’s what scares me the most. This world is so much more darker and twisted than it was 40 years ago when I was his age.

Yet I think children are so much more confident and wiser nowadays, and less gullible than we were. I know how you feel though … it can be scary being a parent.
