Had someone bring this up tonight….quicksand..and it made me start thinking. God does that a lot with me here lately but anyway…
Quicksand is something a lot of us have seen in the movies but hardly anyone you know of has actually fallen into any. But I have seen videos of people getting out of a quicksand pit. And it is actually a lot like what the Bible says about being still.
All quicksand is, is loose dirt with a bunch of water under it. You step or fall into it quite by accident because you can not tell any difference in a quicksand pit and the rest of the terrain you are walking on.
But the moment you are in it you know because you start sinking and the more you struggle against it; the more and faster you sink.
But there is a way out!
I’ve seen it done on television. Here is how they got out.
They stopped struggling!
They leaned back, relaxed and allowed their body weight to adjust. And because they were laying down basically in water with loose sand they were able to allow their legs to lift a little. Then they wiggled backwards for a minute without using their elbows as leverage. Then they rested and repeated the process.
Granted it took a while but eventually they had wiggled and inched their way to solid ground and was able to pull themselves out of the quicksand pit.
Many of us are probably in our pit of spiritual quicksand and we are struggling and the more we struggle the more we sink in our fears, depression and anxieties.
Here’s where the verses about Be Still and Wait upon the Lord and He will renew their strength comes into play. For many of us, we are never still unless we are asleep. But that is what prayer time should be like; on our knees, still and listening for that still small voice.
We should wait on the Lord and pray to renew our strength so we can relax and wiggle that little bit at a time. Yes, it might take a while…could be years. But through patience and trust you can find the solid ground to stand on again. There is hope for getting out of our quicksand pit and it is only found through Christ.
