Judas Priest came to Shreveport and guess who could NOT go despite being able to get in FREE! Yep, you guessed it…me.
Mom’s reason…they were devil worshippers! After all, they were priests of Judas Iscariot for Pete’s sake. What was I thinking?!?
I was livid! And highly embarrassed when the following week came around and I had to tell those who went why I couldn’t go with them.
I played the dad card to Judas Priest’s Screaming For Vengeance cassette a few weeks after the concert I missed. I didn’t set out to do it that way…it just fell in my lap and I took it.
Some of you may be old enough to remember Columbia House and their buy 12 get 1 or 2 special they ran in magazines back in the day. Well…my dad wanted some new country music but was missing one to seal the deal. He asked me if I wanted one and I just pointed without saying a word 🙂
And several weeks later, I had my first metal cassette tape. Which radically changed my musical taste forever.
I would sit in my room and just listen from the moment I got home from school til dinner time. My own little world of homework, drawing, puzzles and music.
It wasn’t the lyrics that moved me back then it was the music, though I did feel it was my life and I wanted the music loud 😁. Don’t misunderstand me, I heard the lyrics. I mean I was singing the songs after all. It’s just they held no real meaning to me until Christmas time of ’84, which is next week’s Sunday Music post.
Bloostone was my favorite off of the album followed by You’ve Got Another Thing Coming and Screaming For Vengeance.
