Half Full or Half Empty

When you look at a glass with water half way to the rim, how do you view the glass? Is it half full or half empty?
Half-empty glass
There really is a correct answer
to this!
The glass is full!
You see, even a glass sitting on a table “empty” it is always full of something and in this instance it is air. And when you put water in there and it fills the glass half way to the top, it is still full…half water and half air.

What you actually have done is displaced (moved or replaced) the air with water. It is the same with our brains. Despite some people who think some folks brains are empty..everyone’s brain is always full of some type of thought.

Most addicts, of any type, are always thinking of how to get the next fix. When can I sneak and look at the computer when I get home, can I check my phone real quick to just get a quick glance, or just envisioning an act in their head. These thoughts are usually always there for the porn addict. This is the air. What we must do is displace that air (thought) with water…living water.

John 1:1,14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
John 7:37 Jesus says If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

The Word is our water that allows us grow in Christ. The more “air” you replace with “water” the more that glass changes. It is still a glass just like your brain is still a brain but the contents have changed.

If you want to overcome any addiction you must transform your mind by replacing old thoughts with new thoughts. And the only way to have new thoughts is to have a new source to pull from….JESUS CHRIST!!

  1. That’s pretty powerful stuff. The problem, at least for me, is to take the drink. I know it’s good for me. I know it’s the right thing. I know it’s the answer. It’s immensely difficult to take that up the mantle and drink up.

What a great analogy you’ve come up with. Simple and clear.

    Time to drink up.

  2. Very true! We are always filled with some thing – evil or good, God or self.
Jesus can (and will) cleanse out the evil/bad/self. But we must follow up, then, and fill with the Right Stuff (i.e., Holy Spirit, Word). If we think we can “just remain clean” without making conscious effort to replace with Good, we are mistaken.
I am reminded of Matthew 12: 43 When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ On its arrival, it finds the house vacant, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and dwell there; and the final plight of that man is worse than the first. So will it be with this wicked generation.”
