Restoring One Such As These

Here is another one of those old posts from Facebook. It was also one of the first posts I put on my blog back in 2013.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault (transgression/sin), you who are spiritual restore such as one with in the spirit of meekness, considering yourself, lest you be tempted.

Notice NO where in this scripture does it say judge the person overtaken in sin. It says to restore them in the spirit of meekness always considering yourself lest you become tempted.

This brings to mind a piece of furniture for me actually. For when you are trying to restore a piece of furniture you do it gently, you clean it, sand it gently and then add the stain or paint. Granted you can get mad, as we all lose patience, but then we risk the chance of either making a mistake because we are angry, get in a hurry and damage the furniture or break it.

We can not risk that chance with another person. We can never risk damaging or breaking another person’s spirit. This will not draw them closer to God..it just might turn them away. God knew that, hence he gave those words to Paul for the churches in Galatia and it IS still true today.

A lot of prayer is needed when you have been asked by someone for help. This is what an accountability partner does.

Praying not only for the person but for themselves. Reading and sharing scripture not only for the person but for themselves as well. This not only helps to restore the person who asked for the help but it is also a way of guarding ones own heart lest they become tempted.

Being an accountability partner is tough at times, but so worth the journey.

Remember that Christ said to forgive as the Father has forgiven you. So it doesn’t matter if the one you are helping restore calls you three or four times a week saying I fell. You forgive and you pray with them, you share that scripture God placed on your heart.

You put forth your hand ever so gently, help them dust themselves off, and help them back on their feet. Then uplift them with words of encouragement along the way; for as people we all need encouragement.
