3 Day Quote Challenge: Day 3!

Well, here we are at the last day of the “3 Day Quote Challenge” that I was nominated to participate in by Gail over at Gail Loves God and Amy at Awakening Wildflower. Thank you both so much.

The rules are as follows:

Thank the person who nominated you.
Post a quote for 3 days, and explain why it appeals to you.
Nominate bloggers each day!

Pretty simple right? Yeah, not for someone as sporadic in his writing as me, but I accomplished the challenge 🙂

For the final and last day of the challenge I am pulling out scripture because it follows suit with the first two days.

Here is the day 3 quote:

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Proverbs 27:17 NIV

To me this verse is vital in accountability.

When two pieces of iron are rubbed together each becomes sharper and more effective. The same can be said about people. When someone comes along beside you during your journey you both learn from each other and in turn grow stronger.

When I first sought help for my addiction I found friends that would check on me. They would ask me the hard questions.

Questions that were meant to not hurt me but rather spur me to overcome my addiction and become a better person. Questions like…”What triggered you today?”, “How did you feel after doing it?”, “Did you watch any videos last night?”.

Sometimes it actually felt like I was being hit with a rod of iron. It hurt, because they cut deep.

An addict, for the most part, will try to hide what they are doing. But those questions made me be real, honest and not hide from my guilt or shame. I became sharper in my walk with God and how I reacted to everyone.

I have friends, even now, that will ask the hard questions or call me out on some behavior I’m doing or emotional state I’m dealing with. And I am so thankful for them pointing those out, as they make me reflect, not only, about my motives but my heart as well. I love them dearly.

I am continually being sharpened. I, in turn sharpen others.

If you are struggling with something reach out to someone. Become sharper so you in turn can sharpen others.

  1. I have read them all and they were awesome! I absolutely love your openness with sharing your heart brother! It is such a blessing. This one spoke to me. I am so blessed to have the people of God in my life when I went so long with the wrong people. You I consider a friend. Your post may not be directed towards me but when I read them they help sow truth and goodness in me! 💜

    1. Thank you 🙂 It truly is a blessing to have friends who spur us on in our walk. You have spurred me on several occasions reading your posts.

      I am thankful for our friendship! May it continue to grow as we share our hearts with others. May our words speak life!

  3. You are so very right, and I am so grateful to God that He came up with such a plan so that we may learn from each other and grow together as if we are all part of one great big family. God see the Church as one great Big Whole instead of individuals. It’s the world that is out for each other. We need to bond together and stop the fighting against each other. We are better off as a whole!

  4. “Sometimes it actually felt like I was being hit with a rod of iron. It hurt, because they cut deep.” I like this. Not that you felt battered by the iron, but that you had people who cared enough about you to poke. My counsellor implanted an image in my head from this verse as well. He told me that when iron sharpens iron, it sparks. So basically, when someone sharpens us, or we sharpen someone else, it is quite probable that hurts, anger, friction will occur at the moment. And that is okay. It actually may even be necessary.

      I have been blessed in the friends that God has brought into my life. Friends that do poke and for the right reasons. That hurt was necessary as it made me reflect and heal.

    1. Praise God indeed. For without them and a lot of prayer who knows where Stu would be. God has blessed me so much, though more often than not I overlook the blessings while struggling with daily life. I need to thank Him more frequently 🙂
